Summary: “Higher Education: Intimate Learning in a Remote Austrian Village”

This is an article about a small school in a remote Austrian village in the Tyrolean Alps, in this school there are only eight students, because the birth rate had reduced in the time.

The have to fight against the hard climate, long roads to the school and the limited resourses to learn and be connected to the wide world.

Eva Klingenschmid, the teacher, uses an original methodology in the classroom, the Kleinschule (small shcool), she takes advantage of the places and the isolation to make a teaching system “in the field”, with learning groups, signals, and the latest help of internet. For example, they discuss about different matters like the global warming.

Now, they are learning the English language, because many people from the Spisswork in the tourism industry showing the spectacular ski areas of Ischgl-Paznaun.

Summary of the “Learning the joy of reading” Article.

Nowadays, the Uganda children haven’t received benefits from the “Country’s Reading for All Programme” promoted by UNESCO, the International Reading Association and other partners. The Progran consists in the teach reading and talking poor children of the primary school and the teachers. Inviting the parents of the children in their education.

Teaming up with the Uganda Library Association, the programme also organizes reading camps during which children are brought together. There are kids like John that now have access to the information, the idea is turning Uganda into a reading nation.

The dificult of implement the programme are the frustrating efforts to achieve reading for all, because there are few teachers in this country. They say that Uganda needs to train more teachers to improve the education.Another dificult is the need of library and materias to the learning reading of the poor children.

A similar programme has started in Tanzania.

The subject in general terms.

My subject is “Dance and expression”, this subject is about the movement, the game. My teacher is Yasna Lepe. This subject is is part of my syllabus. This subject is special because allows me to connect the spirit with the body.

Describe what you have done or learnt about it so far.

In my class I have learnt the African dance, different body movements that express happiness, sadness, tension, relax, and other feelings. I have learnt to work the group and to mix with team member. An important factor is the rhythm of the music, because it invite to dancing the emotions of the students.

Say what else you'd like to know (or do in connection) about it.

I like the relaxation, because the university is very stressful, and I need the techniques of relaxation for my body and mind. The great majority of the class and subjects only teach theory but dance and expression permit to learn together.

The dance is very interesting for me because, my carrier is Education and the children from primary school are very messy in this subject. And I feel free in the class. I would like to know more techniques of relaxation and more types of dance, beacuse are very interesting for mi.

Weekend

What do you usually do on weekend?

In the weekend I usually go out with my boyfriend Patrick, with my friends or my family. Sometimes I work in the Supermarket or I study for a test. I always study at night I can’t concentrate in study. I always study at night because I can’t concentrate during the day.

In the morning I sleep a lot; I like to sleep because it is pleasant for me.

I remember last Saturday 24th May, I was in Batuco with my classmates, getting some information for a subject called: “Family School and Community”, visiting some children and their families with the objective of interviewing them, as part of our project.

During the day, we taught them some Grammar and Maths topics. Children were happy with the our visit and we enjoyed helping them.

Last Sunday I went with my boyfriend to the “San Cristobal” Hill.
There, my boyfriend had “mote con huesillos” but it was too cold for me. In deed I prefer to eat chocolate in winter time.
I love the nature of the park. But, because of the cold day, I got sick.

In a restaurant of Bellavista we ate “empanadas” and natural juice for lunch.
As you can see, my weekends are very fun and interesting.
