Summary: “Higher Education: Intimate Learning in a Remote Austrian Village”


This is an article about a small school in a remote Austrian village in the Tyrolean Alps, in this school there are only eight students, because the birth rate had reduced in the time.
The have to fight against the hard climate, long roads to the school and the limited resourses to learn and be connected to the wide world.
Eva Klingenschmid, the teacher, uses an original methodology in the classroom, the Kleinschule (small shcool), she takes advantage of the places and the isolation to make a teaching system “in the field”, with learning groups, signals, and the latest help of internet. For example, they discuss about different matters like the global warming.
Now, they are learning the English language, because many people from the Spisswork in the tourism industry showing the spectacular ski areas of Ischgl-Paznaun.
